This webinar will provide an overview of my research that has monitored the work-related wellbeing of UK academics over time.  How the findings can help participants improve their personal effectiveness, wellbeing and work-life balance will be considered.  Also examined will be ways in which managers can introduce multi-level interventions to improve the quality of working life for their staff and build capacity for sustainable wellbeing and performance.

Gail Kinman is Professor of Occupational Health Psychology and Director of the Research Centre for Applied Psychology at the University of Bedfordshire. She is a Chartered Psychologist and an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and is co-founder and co-chair of their Working Group for Work-life Balance. Gail’s general area of expertise is in stress and work-life balance in emotionally demanding professions such as health and social care, the emergency and security services and teaching.  She has a particular interest in the work-related wellbeing of academic employees and has been commissioned to conduct several large-scale studies in the university sector in the UK over the last 20 years. Her findings have been published widely and presented at national and international conferences.  Recent research interests include change fatigue in the university sector, the impact of technology on the wellbeing of academics and the implications of rumination for their recovery, health and job performance.
