The ongoing debate about mandatory or voluntary CPD remains unresolved. The idea of personalised learning has become policy in 14-19 education and is echoed by the slow growth of PDP and e-portfolio creation in HE within an environment where basic questions about the purpose of a university are again being raised. Beyond, in the wider world of work and professions, regulation expands. Does regulation in its many forms and places stifle or stimulate the individual? There are differences between sectors but in the realm of CPD especially, how should we try to shape the future? Whither CPD?
